Title: Night is Coming
Today we will look at what the hour of night is and what grace God has prepared for us.
- It was Night
The Bible says that Jesus and His disciples were passing by a man blind from birth. How sad and sorry it is to see a man born blind, and he became a beggar on the street.
Jhn 9:1-2 And as He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. 2And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he should be born blind?”
Let’s look at the reaction from the disciples. They asked Jesus, “Who sinned, this man or his parents, that he is born blind?”
We are not talking about the gentiles nor the Pharisees or Sadducees but the disciples who lived with Jesus and trained by Jesus. Rather than asking Jesus whose sin it was, they should ask how they could help the blind. It shows that it was the time people’s love and compassion had grown cold.
Jesus cured the blind and made his eyes open. People brought him to the Pharisees. They should celebrate for healing and greatly appreciate Jesus for what He has done but instead, the Pharisees were looking to persecute Jesus because Jesus performed healing on the Sabbath (Jhn 9:14-16).
The Pharisees summoned the parents of the blind and threw a religious trial. They already decided to excommunicate anyone who says the name of Jesus or Jesus healed the blind. The religious leaders were filled with envy and hatred (Jhn 9:18-20).
What is the word that can summarize the condition of these people? It was spiritual night. Jesus said that night is when no man can work. Those who do not do the works of God are in the hour of night and those who do the works of God are in the hour of day (Jhn 9:4-5).
Do we have Jesus in our life? Do we do the works of God? Outwardly, it is truly the spiritual night that we are frozen, and things are frozen because of COVID-19. However, if we keep focusing on doing God’s work, keep working and keep serving God, it will turn into day. Let’s strive and make more efforts to live with Jesus and do the works of God, so that we may be able to bring a good fruit, surplus, profit in account with God.
- Night is coming (Mat 25:1-6)
Night is the time when Jesus departed but at the same time, night is the time when He will come back. In this parable, the bridegroom came at midnight which means He came when night is deep.
These 10 virgins were the people waiting for the groom. However, the Bible says that because night gets deeper and deeper that all of them fell asleep. When the night is extremely deep, there was a shout that the groom comes.
The Bible says, the coming of the Son of Man will be like the days of Noah and the days of Lot. These were the times when sin, wickedness and evilness were overflowing.
Mat 24:37 “For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah.
Gen 6:5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of was great of the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Luk 17:28 “It was the same as happened in the days of Lot: they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building;
It is sad that the world is going through the time of night, but we must not be affected or influenced by it. Rather, we should become people like Noah who worked and fulfilled the will of God even if they were lonely.
We are going toward the end of Year 2020 and we have to do the final account with God. Let’s get rid of all depression and anxieties but fill ourselves with hope because as night gets darker, it is getting closer to the Day of His coming. When He comes, He will take us to the eternal feast.
Secondly, let’s prepare a lamp and have enough oil. Psa 119:105 says that Thy Word is a lamp and Acts 10:38 talks about the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, a lamp and oil signify that the Word of God and the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
Psa 119:105 Thy word is a lamp to my feet, And a light to my path.
Acts 10:38 “(You know of) Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with powers, and (how) He went about doing good, and healing all who were oppressed by the devil; for God was with Him.
Amen.
