Title: The Ark is the Revelation of God’s judgment for sins
2 Pet 3:5-10 says that there were two kinds of universal judgement: The first kind was the judgement of water which happened in the time of Noah and the second kind is the judgement of fire which will happen in the end time. Let’s look at the time of Noah and learn about God’s judgment so that we can be prepared for the judgment coming to us.
- Reason for God’s judgment
Sons of God got married with the daughters of men.
- Spiritual reason (Gen 6:1-2)
God did not bring His judgment because people get married. Jms 4:4 says that whoever has friendship with the world are the adulterous woman. So, women or daughters refer to the people who have nothing to do with the will of God. They are the people who put themselves in the place of God. They are their own king and their own God. On the other hand, men or sons refer to the people who know and believe in God. They are the people who try to live according to the Will of God and keep the Word of God. To be precise, daughters of men refer to the descendants of Cain whereas the sons of men refer to the descendants of Seth.
Descendants of Seth represents Christians and believers today who are supposed to follow the Word of God and live according to the Will of God but lost the Word of God and stopped following the will of God. Since only Noah’s 8 family members were saved, it can be said that all of the descendants of Seth who were alive at the time of the flood lost the Word of God and didn’t care about the will of God.
How come Christians and believers of God fell and depart from faith? It is because they saw the daughters of men and felt they are beautiful (Gen 6:2). Hebrew word for ‘beautiful’ is ‘Tob’ which means ‘good or beautiful’.
The sons of God felt that the daughters of men were beautiful and good means they became envious of what the daughters of men represent such as their lifestyle or their ideology. The life living without God looked better to them. The life they can do whatever they want and in the way they like looked superb to them. Only 8 family members of Noah were saved. It means only 8 people overcame the temptation of the eyes and the rest of the descendants of Seth became corrupted and left their faith in God.
What are the sins that the people in the days of Noah committed? (Mat 24:38)
First is the sin of eating and drinking: appetite. More than we consider how we should live to follow the will of God. If we consider what to eat or how to eat and drink better, we are committing the same sin that the people in Noah’s time committed. The second is the sin of marrying and giving in marriage: Libido (sexual desire). As a result, the sons of God became like the daughters of men and the wickedness of man filled up and overflew the earth (Gen 6:5).
Hebrew word for ‘great’ is ‘Rab’ which means ‘abundance, exceeding, sufficient, not recoverable’. Apart from 8 people, all of them lived wickedly and thought about wicked things. Thus, God couldn’t find a spot that is not contaminated by the wickedness and evilness of man.
After God gave Seth, God waited for 1656 years looking for godly offspring to come out and fill the earth. On the contrary, the earth became filled with ungodly offspring and wickedness. Thus, God had to judge the earth with water (Mal 2:15).
- Physical reason
Spiritual issues manifest in physical realm. The time of Noah was the time when there was a wrong understanding and practice of marriage. We can understand the circumstance of the time of Noah by studying the wives and daughters of Lamech, the 7th descendant of Adam in Cain’s lineage (Gen 4:19).
-Adah= the first wife
It means ‘Advance on, move forward, dress up (decorate), morning (refreshing), beauty (sexiness)’. She decorated herself not with normal ornaments but drilled into her skull or pierced through her body. Also, she liked to have refreshing satisfaction. She has flexibility like a gymnast. So, when she danced, she looked so gorgeous and sexy. A man couldn’t resist her beauty.
-Zillah= the second wife
It means ‘shadow, tasty (shade)’. There were many people who wanted to become like Zillah, they are the shadow of Zillah. She also was really good at things that men were eager to stay under her shade.
-Naamah= a daughter (Gen 4:22)
It means ‘attractiveness, sly, pleasant’. She was very attractive and knew how to use her charms to control men cunningly.
Looking at the meaning of names of the women in Lamech’s family, we can see that the people of that time really focused on outward beauty, sensual pleasure, and bodily aestheticism. The people in the days of Noah had a wrong concept and understanding of marriage, and it became the physical reason to bring about God’s judgement upon them.
Conclusion
We should have the fear of the Lord (Prov 31:30) God’s judgement of water came and killed the people who had nothing to do with the will of God. However, the same flood lifted the Ark and made it float over the water If we overcome the temptation of seeing and hold on to the Word of God, God’s judgment will be a chance for us to be lifted and float above the water.
