Title: What is His Word?
Mat 4:4 But He answered and said, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God.’”
Some scholars say that man’s body lives by bread but man’s spirit lives by the Word of God. It sounds great but it is a Hellenistic philosophy called “Dualism.” Gen 2:6-7 describes about how a man was created. Not only the breath of God is from God, but dust is also what God created. Therefore, the Word of God will make both man’s flesh and spirit live.
Today’s scripture is Psa 107:10-22
- The Trouble is Not to Repent
v10-11 talks about how the rebellious will perish, and v17-18 talks about how the sinner will perish. Conclusively, it teaches us that because they sinned against God, they will perish. It is like Rom 6:23: The wages of sin is death.
However, v19-20 say, “They cried out to the Lord in their trouble: He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction.” This is our hope. When we truly repent and cry out to God, when we are fully emerged in God’s grace and hold on to the cross of Jesus, God will pour out the blessing of success and comfort. The answer to our prayer will surely be given.
Here, what we can understand is even the ones who sinned against God and planned to be destructed still can pray to God. Even sinners can meet with God, only when they wear a special garment called repentance. Therefore, to sin against God is not the end of story that will cause us to perish but not to repent is. Time to time, we make mistakes and sin against God knowingly or unknowingly or on purpose or by chance. But we can still be saved from the destruction, if we repent.
God even concern about those who sin against God: this is called God’s mercy and God’s love. If God doesn’t care about us, no matter what we do, we cannot meet Him. But because He cares for us and concerns about us, when we repent and pray, God comes and meets with us. Therefore, we should pray for our nations and repent for our peoples. Then, God will remove all kind of difficulties including COVID-19 and open a way of living before us.
- The Way to Save is To Send His Word
When God said, “Let there be light” and there was light, Gen 1:3 says: This is the Creation, to make orders when there was chaos, and to create light when there was only darkness.
When God sent His Word, the Word became flesh and dwelt among us: This is the Incarnation of Jesus, to redeem us and make us His sons (Gal 4:4-5). When Jesus heals His people, He used many different methods like by stretching His hands or by touching them. However, the most frequent method Jesus used to heal people was to speak and to send His Word.
Mat 8: 5-13 tells us a story when Jesus went into Capernaum. There was a centurion and begged Jesus for his servant who was suffering with leprosy. Jesus said, “I will come and heal your servant”, but he said, “just say the word, and my servant will be healed.” Jesus didn’t go to his house, He didn’t even meet the servant, He only said, “Go, let it be done to you as you have believed.” When Jesus sent His Word, the servant was healed.
